Soon we will be taking the Foodbank onto another level, by opening a new Hub at Viewforth Hall.
This new Hub brings the opportunity for us to deliver much more than just a basic food parcel. Our ambition is to allow clients to self-select from ambient, fresh, chilled and frozen. There will also be the opportunity to access hot meals in the working kitchen provided within the new Hub in the longer term.
The evidence to move towards this service is provided by our review and from subsequent client focus groups (March 2019) and client questionnaires (May 2019) which provide feedback strongly supporting choice and extended range of food, particularly fresh and proteins.
We aim to launch a Fruit and veg pilot whereby the service seek to maintain a core supply of fresh fruit and vegetables (6 key items) by blending the free donations from suppliers with purchased food. This will inform future trends and needs of users and budget implications for the foodbank.
We would like to find sustainable, re-useable bags which we could give to clients, which they in turn could bring back should they require further support.
There are of course challenges ahead for us, but with the fantastic support we receive from our local community, I'm sure we will succeed.
If you can assist with any of the following items, please get in touch.
Surface Go's - We would like to purchase 6 x Surface Go's( 1 for each centre, plus stock team), this would enable us to check and record Client data in real time, ensuring we can support our clients to the best of our abilities. It is also massively important for us to be accurately recording stock in and out, particularly as we move to providing fresh/frozen products.
Privacy Screens - half a dozen of these would be really useful
Shelving (semi industrial, we need 20 units of 5 Levels | 1800mm H x 1800mm W x 600mm D) 400kg load (now done)
Alarm System - our new hall doesn't currently have one - in hand
Entry System - so that we can allow entry remotely(from within the building) - in hand
Re-useable Carrier Bags - We would like to give these out to clients who have longer term needs, to save us adding to the environmental impact of once only carrier bags. - in hand but could always use more
Industrial Fridges or Freezers - We could really use a couple of each, not massive one's, maybe 1800mm x 600mm would be ideal. - in hand although we can use more if anyone wishes to donate them
